About the Artist

Laura Migasiuk is an internal medicine physician in Maryland who has reawakened her passion for art.

Throughout her early years, Laura was constantly immersed in the creative process. Oil paint, brushes, and charcoal dust were a common part of her day to day. However, this changed once the responsibilities of college, medical school, and residency took over her life. For various reasons, art took a backseat for many years. Before long, she was thrown into the realities of hospital medicine during a global pandemic without an outlet to decompress.

It was time for a change.

Style and Mediums

If one thing is certain, Laura revels in the freedom that comes from experimenting with various mediums, subjects, and styles. She gives herself ample permission to explore.

While currently working mostly in ink and watercolor, Laura does not shy away from oil and acrylic to depict a range of subjects. She often draws inspiration from her Polish heritage and strives to create art that is authentic, classic, and timeless. Through light and shadow, she is able to create intimate moods that invite the viewer into the artwork itself.

Paint of heart is a play on the words faint of heart

Why Paint of Heart?

Laura first decided to share her work publicly on a new Instagram page titled @paintofheart. The profile was born in 2021 during a particularly challenging time: internal medicine residency during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Paint of heart is a play on the words faint of heart. Perfectly fitting for a time of intense burnout. A time when it is so easy to feel “faint of heart” from the high stress environment and constant expectations.

To reclaim a sense of self in the midst of chaos, Laura decided to take intentional time for creativity. Soon, art became an outlet and tangible proof that beauty can heal.
